Hi Friends today i came up with new post named “SOME USEFUL LINUX TERMS AND THEIR MEANING ” . Here I’ll discuss about some important terms which are USED too Much In linux World . Knowing the meaning of these simple terms can Help You In many situations . Hope You’ll enjoy It .
Unix :
Multiuser, Multitasking and CUI Operating system developed at bell labs in early 1970 . UNIX was one of the first operating systems to be written in a high-level
programming language named C . It is the foudation of Linux Operatingsystem .
Linux :
Linux is Free , Open-source And Unix -Like Operating system Founded By Linux torvalds and Later Developed By Thousands of programmers worldwide .
Kernel :
Kernel is the Heart Of Every Unix like operating system . It is responsible for all the System Related Functionality of OS . It Contains Thousands of modules to
communicate with different part of hardware . Kernel manages all The functionality Of Operating system like memory management , disk management , Resource
allocation , device Handling , I/o management etc .Linux uses monolithic kernel .
Shell :
That is that interface of Your Operating system from which You can communicate with kernel. Its the mediater between user and operatingsystem .It is Upper layer of kernel. It takes Input from user and Provides corresponding output . The term “shell” is Mostly linked with characteruser interface (CUI) of unix system but its also used for Graphical user interface . KDE , Gnome etc are also called GUI shell.
x-Windows :
Its the framework which Enables Your Linux system to Display Graphicaluser Interface (GUI) .
